Representing the people of South Australia in the Legislative Council since 2022

I am proud and grateful to have the opportunity to represent all South Australians in the Upper House of State Parliament. I am a passionate advocate for the people of South Australia who need their voice amplified.

A mum. A vet. A teacher.

A passionate advocate for those in the community who need their voice amplified.

Arguing against the Voice, I am frequently asked "what is the alternative?"

Early intervention for all children no matter their race or heritage is one obvious answer.

One excuse for creating a new bureaucratic arm at a cost to the state of $10.3 million, otherwise known as the State First Nations Voice, was, "we have tried everything else."

Not true. Families need more support to stay together and navigate struggles.

South Australia has a disproportionate number of children in state care compared to other states and comparatively very low investment in family support services.

The result is an economic loss of $448 million and broken families.

The Naracoorte Council will replace its Acknowledgement of Country with a more inclusive statement that reflects the entire community. The council's alignment with the community they serve is praiseworthy.

Currently, the council nomination process allows for confidential nominations. This means that the public cannot examine nominations until after the candidate nomination period has closed. I seek to change this with my bill, which compels nominations to be made immediately available for public scrutiny. This will promote electoral competition and guarantee election transparency.

My 'Local Government (Elections) (Display and Public Valid Nominations) Amendment Bill 2023' will be introduced in parliament this week.

Breaking News: Qld’s mandatory Covid vaccine orders ‘unlawful’

"Dozens of police and health workers including paramedics have won a mammoth legal battle over mandatory vaccination orders after the Supreme Court declared they were unlawful," the Courier Mail reports.

"In a 115-page decision handed down by Justice Glenn Martin on Tuesday he declared police commissioner Katarina Carroll’s direction for mandatory Covid-19 vaccination issued in December 2021 was unlawful under the Human Rights Act and banned her from taking any steps to enforce the direction."

"He also ruled that a similar order by John Wakefield, the director general of Queensland Health’s equivalent vaccination policy “is of no effect” and Mr Wakefield be blocked from forcing paramedics to have the injection."

"Seventy four people opposing vaccinations took the state government to the Supreme Court to challenge vaccination directives, they were included in three separate applications before the court."

"Two related to police officers or civilian staff, and the third case related to Queensland Ambulance Service workers."

"The workers did not have to be vaccinated while their legal fight was underway."

I've been trying for some time to get answers from the Minister on the actual cost of running the Office for Women. It appears $3.3 million is being spent on this office but, of course, we don't have an Office for Men. This is despite men having disproportionately higher adverse health outcomes than women on almost every measure. I will continue to advocate for Men's Health and believe a dedicated Office for Men is not just justified but well overdue. ... See MoreSee Less
